Jantar Mantar technical visit
Jaipur’s Jantar Mantar, built under Sawai Jai Singh II in the 1720s–30s, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a major surviving observatory of the Indian astronomical tradition. A guided technical visit is included as an optional programme item, planned for the first light of Day 2 (Saturday 3 April, 06:30–08:30) with an astronomy historian. The visit requires pre-booking and a separate coach.
Jaipur as a field of study
- Urban planning: Jaipur’s 1727 city plan is described in the concept note as a grid informed by Vāstu and Śilpa prescriptions.
- Water and engineering: Amber Fort’s water systems, local johads and tank cascades offer regional context for technology and environmental tracks.
- Material history: The Jaigarh cannon foundry and the wider Rajasthan heritage landscape connect to engineering and materials research.
- Collections: City Palace manuscript holdings form part of Jaipur’s scholarly setting.
Travel planning
The concept note identifies Jaipur International Airport, rail and road links via Delhi, and hotel options across price ranges. Transport, accommodation and coach details will be added as arrangements are confirmed. Please check registration information for updates.
