About INDIC 2027

International Network for Discourse on Indian Civilizational Knowledge

INDIC 2027 is the 1st International Conference on Indian Knowledge Systems, hosted by the IKS Centre at the University of Engineering & Management (UEM), Jaipur. It is designed as a rigorous, source-based international forum on India’s mathematical, astronomical, scientific and technological traditions.

Why this conference

The National Education Policy 2020 calls for the integration of Indian Knowledge Systems into higher education. Research on Indian mathematics, astronomy and engineering—among it the Śulbasūtras, Āryabhaṭīya, Bakhshālī manuscript, Kerala school’s infinite series, metallurgy, water engineering and Vāstu geometry—needs forums that bring mathematicians, Sanskritists and historians of science together around shared evidentiary standards. The conference also addresses the need for peer-reviewed, classroom-ready material for STEM programmes.

Conference aim
To establish a rigorous, source-based international forum for research on India’s mathematical, scientific and technological knowledge traditions, and turn that research into peer-reviewed publications and teachable higher-education curriculum material.

Objectives

  1. Bring together mathematicians, historians of science, Sanskritists, archaeologists and engineering faculty from India and abroad.
  2. Present and debate research grounded in primary sources.
  3. Develop teaching-ready IKS modules for mathematics, physics, computer science and engineering.
  4. Train early-career researchers in source-critical methods, including manuscript access, editions, translation, dating and computational reconstruction.
  5. Build international collaboration through joint research, exchange and institutional agreements.
  6. Establish a standing network and biennial conference series hosted at UEM Jaipur.

Scope and standards

Submissions may draw on Sanskrit, Prakrit, Tamil, Persian and other Indic-language texts; manuscripts and commentaries; inscriptions; archaeological and artefactual evidence; and computational or experimental reconstruction of documented procedures. Comparative and transmission studies are welcome where India is a substantive part of the comparison. The conference ranges from the Harappan period to the colonial encounter, with a track on contemporary application and pedagogy.

All submissions are reviewed double-blind by at least two reviewers against scholarly standards of evidence. The conference welcomes regional and vernacular traditions alongside Sanskrit sources.
